What is DEXA Scan?

A DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) is a state-of-the-art device that measures bone density, as well as bone, fat, and muscle composition. As we age, the risk of developing osteoarthritis increases significantly. The DEXA scan gives you a snapshot of your bone health so that you can incorporate treatments to help you improve—or preserve— your bone health.
DEXA Scans also offer precise measure of body fat and muscle ratio and distribution.
Hudson Life offers scans for bone density and body composition.

How it works

Here’s how the DEXA scan works:

While lying in the bed of the machine, the scanner slowly passes over you to take your body’s full measurements and composition.

Different parts of your body absorb rays in different ways. The scan bounces two different types of rays off your body—one absorbed by bone and the other by soft tissue. Emitting both these rays at once allows the scanner to capture the density and/or composition ratios.

Body Composition

DEXA Body Composition Scan gives you the most precise information about your body fat, muscle, and bone composition, and lets you track changes in body composition over time. Body Composition Scan lets fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and dieters measure body composition. See exactly how much body fat and muscle you have and where. Track your progress as you work through a new program.

Bone Density

DEXA Bone Density Scan is used to measure how strong your bones are. It is commonly used to identify osteoporosis, a condition that causes a decrease in the density of bones resulting in fragility and to determine a person’s risk for developing fractures. Bone Density Scan helps identify patients at high risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. By monitoring bone density, physicians and patients can assess risk and proactively treat the problem.
